Play! By Sephora – December Edition

sEPHODECBANNER

My second box (and 4th since the service started) from Sephora’s subscription arrived yesterday. I must say, the samples I received this time did not get me as excited as with the last box (if you didn’t see what I got then, head over here), but I still like the subscription and I think it will get better. I’m not losing hopes yet, despite of missing one sample (smashbox Full Eyeshadow Duo). I’ll explain briefly at the end what do I mean with this.

Y’all gotta excuse my terrible washed looking, blue/gray-ish toned and lack of color in my pics. It has been super cloudy and gloomy here and the camera from my phone is practically useless if there’s no direct sunlight.

So lets take a look to this month’s box:

Sephodec1

First come the samples I totally loved from this delivery in order of how much I liked them:

Sephodec2

Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil by fresh I loved my Josie Maran Organic Argan oil from last month and this one is no exception. I love receiving natural, organic oils and serums because it is what I use as moisturizer before applying makeup and to soak up my face and hands overnight. Just a little goes a long way.

This one screams 100% natural with its rosemary and grape seed oil tones. Of course if you’re too sensitive to fragrance and perfumes, you may not like it, although it is not a strong scent at all and it is from 100% natural ingredients. I’m soaking in my face with this oil tonight.

Next up is Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf, a perfume sample. I found a sample of this same perfume in a magazine last month (it was this little packet with the shape of a cute ornament). I can’t have too many tubes of perfume samples, so this little one is also a win. It makes me feel so fancy! You can feel the scent but yet it doesn’t overwhelm your senses. Base notes are patchouli (who knew!) and vanilla.

There’s a tip in this month’s guide that says “Spritz or dab, but don’t rub! Rubbing breaks down the scent’s molecules and causes it to fade faster.” Something I am guilty of doing all this time, no wonder why I feel my perfumes faded so fast!

Make Up Forever Professional Aqua Eyes Eyeliner. It doesn’t say the name of the shade, but you can totally see it is a black eyeliner. It says it is waterproof. I was aware of this brand, but never had the chance to try it (lets just say I can splurge in mid-range priced makeup items once they’re on sale or they offer a discount of 25% off…). I am really happy that this box is allowing me to try it for the first time in my life, the moisturizing primer from it on last month’s box is totally a must for me now. I am buying the full sized version soon.

(I am going to make an edit to this entry tomorrow with a swatch of this pencil. I was not sure about giving this away as a stocking stuffer, but now that my packages with my gifts orders have arrived, I am definitely keeping this one.)

And now, lets see the two items I am not so excited to receive:

sephodec5

dr. brandt PoreDermabrassion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator. I am of the rare group of people who doesn’t like skincare items. At least not this type of skincare. I already use a lot of artificial stuff on my skin when wearing makeup, so a way to treat my skin I do is using natural, organic oils and serums to soak it in overnight, so it can recover some of its nature.

I have received a lot of samples from brand thanks to ipsy and Brichbox (which I cancelled long time ago because of this same reason), and I have tried several of them in the past. It has never done anything for my skin and I can’t see any difference even after emptying the tubes. So this goes in the box of unused samples I am keeping to make a goody bag for a future giveaway I am planning for the official launch of my blog.

Sephodec6

And last, NUDE Advance Renewal Age-Defying Serum. The package says it has omega 9 and that is not made with parabens, silicone, mineral oil or synthetic ingredients. But if I can’t find this in a natural, organic everything store, then is not a go for me. I will find someone who likes it and will give it away too.

So now that I’ve showed you all what I got, let me go to the dark side of this box: I did not notice it when I was getting the pics of these, I just opened my box and went straight outside after receiving it, but while I was writing this quick review and checking the guide for this box, I found out there’s one item missing from the 6 (yes 6, it looks like that’s going to be the number of samples for this subscription) I should have received. It is an eye shadow duo from smashbox with earth toned shades. Not sure if they can send replacements, but I will try by emailing them and I will let you know if they do, so if it happens to you in the future (lets hope it doesn’t, of course), you can claim your missing item.

Did you receive all of your samples? Which one was your fave? Are you out of the wait list now? Share your thoughts with me in the comments, please! I hope you enjoyed looking at this samples as much as I did.

    • If you are a Sephora fan and if you don’t mind receiving half skin care samples, then yes. Plus the brands are prestige, even more than with ipsy, so it is worth the $10 a month. Let me know if you give it a try! 🙂
