image Play! By Sephora – First impressions

Hi there, Bea here! So I received my first delivery from Sephora and their beauty box subscription back in mid November…I know it is December already, but I got the opportunity to post about it until now, PC problems you know…

Play! By Sephora is a monthly beauty subscription that costs $10 with shipping and handling included. It comes with 5 to 6 luxury beauty samples from mid rage brands that can be makeup, skincare and I still need to confirm if they will send beauty tools (anyone crossing fingers for Beauty Blender mini?) too. Considering this and for being my first box (the third since the program launched for VIBs  and VIB Rouge) , I have to say WOW!

Lets take a look so you can see why I am wowed:

So here’s how the box looks like from the outside. The design with lipsticks is totes adorbs! I can’t imagine any other makeup item as symbol representing makeup addiction better than lipstick. The carton which is made with is sturdy yet smooth to the touch. Lets move to the inside:

Playbook for November 2015 Beauty Box by Sephora

The first thing you find immediately is a guide where you can see the description for each item and tips for how to use them, so you can get the max from them. Then the gorgeous tissue paper with the strips from Sephora’s iconic shopping bags.

And here are all the samples I received still in their packaging, for which I am a total sucker:

Behold all the goodies in my box!

As you can see, unlike most of the beauty subscriptions, this box came with 6 samples. The first thing that got my eye and almost total attention was this pink Lip Cream by Buxom in Dolly. I have never tried anything from this brand…well, all the brands in this box are new for me, except for Stella, I used to get samples of this perfume at Macy’s…

…anyways, it says it is a lip cream but I see it more like a lip gloss (a lip cream is more pigmented). I tried to swatch it on the back of my hand but it is too sheer to get noticed there with my camera. It is still a very nice shade of pink that compliments even my skin tone, which has yellow undertones. It is not sticky, it has this minty-feeling on the lips (not recommendable if you are too sensitive to peppermint) and smells like candy.

Make Up Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer. This is a hydrating primer. And it feels like you’re applying moisturizer instead of a primer. You know how primers leave this waxy sensation afterwards? Well, this one doesn’t do that and gets my face smooth and ready for makeup in a few minutes, so it is definitely splurge worthy.

Next up is this lip pencil from bITE Beauty in Rhubarb. This is my kinda shade for lips. Not matte and it is supposed to be edible. You read that right, edible! I haven’t tried it though, not taking the risk here. It is like a regular lipstick, not indelible. I like the pigmentation, it goes opaque in the first application and my lips felt so smooth!

Here’s a quick swatch of this timeless shade.

This one next is the only one item I am not so excited to try. I tried several subscriptions before and thanks to that, I have a bunch of blue eyeliners that I don’t use, so this one is still in its original wrap. Behold the Contour (I swear all makeup items are “contour” nowadays) Eye Pencil 12 Hr. Wear Waterproof in My Boyfriend’s Jeans from Sephora Collection. I’m planning on giving this away later, so I did not swatch it.

Sorry little eyeliner!

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil. I love organic oils. I currently only use organic coconut oil at night, but I will definitely try this one. I’ve read only good things about Josie’s products, so this is also a win for me.

And last but not least, the Stella McArtney’s Stella perfume. I love, love this perfume, makes me feel classy and important. This one goes to my wish list for Christmas in its full size version. Notes: Rose, peony, mandarin and amber. The blend of all these is simply amazing.

I’ve read that some states are still in the waiting list and they could start rolling out the subscription until January next year. If you live in any of those states, hang in there, the waiting is worth it as you can see. You will totally love it once it comes to you.

    • Oh my, that’s a lot of waiting and so odd you didn’t get an invitation! I just reached VIB two days ago, and I think I was in the waiting list for 3 months too, because this is the 3rd box from the subscription and I requested to join since the service was announced. I hope you get off the waiting list soon and as I said, it is totally worth it!
